| | New Brunswick, N.J. -- Engineers at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, have developed a method for recycling latex paint. The process blends latex paint solids with plastics, such as high-density polyethylene or polymethyl methacrylate, to create plastics that perform just as well if not better than ones made from pure materials. Waste latex paint is the largest component of household hazardous waste.

| | Harrisburg -- 116 municipalities have been awarded grants to support recycling efforts. The state's recycling and reuse industry already employees over 81,000 people and generates $18.4 in annual sales. Additionally, by reprocessing waste, almost $260 million of disposal costs were avoided and $113 million was generated in new product sales.

| | New Boston -- The Michigan Recycling Partnership issued a report criticizing the state's recycling programs. In 2004, the national recycling rate was 27 percent, whereas Michigan's was 20 percent. Michigan spent $200,000 on recycling-related programs while neighboring Wisconsin spent $29 million. The number of residents offered curbside service decreased to 27 percent. In Detroit, curbside recycling service is illegal so enough waste is available for the nearby trash incinerator. U.S. customers who buy a new Mac online through Apple or through any Apple store will be given a shipping label to mail back their old system.
