"Going green" means thinking differently about what you consume. It is easy to think that the only purpose of what you buy is to be used by people. However, the time in which you actually use the item is a small compared to the time that it took to make the product plus the time that it will take for the parts of the product to return to their original states. Everything that you own took time, energy, and resources from the earth. Eventually, all aspects of the product will be re-incorporated into the earth. "living green" means creating goods in a way that minimizes both the amount of resources used (such as energy and physical resources) and the amount of waste produced (such as greenhouse gases and non-biodegradable material). Sustainability can be applied to everything that you use-- your house, your food, your transportation, yourself, etc. One of the easiest things to do is simply to use less and re-use more (such as using metal water bottles and cloth grocery bags

As for organizing a program in your community, see who's interested by sending out emails and putting up flyers. Then contact whoever is interested, and find a good time for everyone to meet on a regular basis. Then, you can begin to think of good strategies to help your community to go green. There is almost unlimited information about sustainability on the internet. If you need to know anything about a certain product, just search it on Google. You will be surprised about how much guidance you can find just by online searches.
